The Old Lorettonian Golfing Society Founded
in 1927 The
Old Lorettonian Golfing Society is a Society separate from the
Lorettonian Society. The Society's aim is to promote and administer
the playing of reasonably competitive golf for OLs - whatever their
golfing ability. Matches
are played, usually at Muirfield or Prestwick in the North and at a
number of different, excellent courses in the South, such as Denham,
Royal Ashdown Forest and Worplesdon, against other public schools'
golfing societies. There is also an annual match against the School at
Muirfield for "Maxie's Tassie" Teams
also represent the Society in the Halford Hewitt Tournament at Deal
and Sandwich, the Grafton Morrish Tournament at Hunstanton and
Brancaster, the Anniesland Trophy at Denham, various Scottish
Wayfarers meetings, and the Queen Elizabeth Coronation Schools
Tournament at Barnton. These tournaments tend to be for the lower
handicap golfer but the other matches are broader in scope. The
Society's Annual Weekend takes place each October at Elie. There is a
Medal competition on the Saturday and a Foursomes competition on the
Sunday, at which The Society's trophies are keenly contested for. A formal dinner, at which
guests are very welcome, is held on the Saturday evening, just after
the Society's AGM. |
